I haven’t done anything representing a heavy squat in ages, probably months. I wanted to start out the new year squatting heavy but I was still dealing with too many nagging little boo boos. This, I believe, contributed to my demotivation at the beginning of the year. Now that itch is getting to great to bear. All that remains of my latest owwie is some nerve inflammation that does not seem to be exacerbated by training. So I say it is time to get my act together and get started acting like I enjoy this as much as I do.
Specifically with the squats on this particular occasion, Big Rick was watching me squat. He used to be quite a squatter. He reminded me that I need to be looking up out of the hole. Something I had all but forgotten. Something that can be seen in all the squats I do that end up with my legs extended and me trying to Good Morning the weight up. Using this, I was flying out of the hole on those last few singles. We both thought the 405 was a foregone conclusion. It wasn’t. I don’t know if it was head game, exhaustion beginning or weakness but I made it about a third of the way before stalling. For some reason I lacked whatever it was going to take to make a second effort or even sustain the first one to grind through. So it was a bomb. Next week….
Time for a goals post, watch the next couple days.
