Switchn’ it up

Posted in Gym Strength by Mike on March 8, 2007

Took Wednesday off this week. I’m headed to the gym tonight though.

I’ve been doing the full body workout thing for a while and I like it but I’m having real trouble sustaining it. It seems like my recovery is getting worse and worse and it seems like I’m flatlining if not regresing in areas. I’m thinking about trying to work some kind of split. It seems like a lot of my “full body” days I hit squats and some kind of pull. I wonder if I’m not overworking the lower body a bit or at least underworking the upper body. So I’m thinking about some kind of pper body” concept for today. I don’t know that I can totally resist something with the legs but we’ll see.

    Hey Mike:

Just an observation – this week you’ve mentioned decreased motivation, boredom, regression, sleep disturbance, and losing focus on nutrition.

Speaking for myself – these are classic signs of overtraining. My overtraining is always followed by a period of recovery – either voluntary or involuntary (injury or illness).

I think you are right. I was sitting at the gym last night pondering if I could/should take a week off. I think maybe I should.
