Longer climb

Posted in Uncategorized by Mike on November 5, 2006

Climbing gym this morning. I kept the rating low but kept climbing as much as I could. I would say I got in 6 or 7 routes. My forearms didn’t burn up near as much. Some is probably from me taking greater care to not make them work but I also think that the major burnout from last Sunday caused some changes in my forearms, making them more apt to cope. Climbs were in the 5.4-5.6 range. I’m planning on a 5.7 later this week when I go back.

I have no idea about the science behind this but it seems like a whole system of cappilaries will open up all at once, not a little bit at a time. I think I read that in one of Ken Coopers old Aerobics books even – who knows?

I always worry that I will end up sounding like every TV fitness guru I see, making unbackable claims that boil down more to perception than reality but that is certainly how this felt. I had moments of fatigue but they were much fewer and much further between and much less severe. I didn’t feel like I should just give up on any of the routes like I felt last week. It was a good feeling.
