guess I did 210 clean and press
I tried for what must have been 230 and ended up on my ass, scared the hell out of all. I need to keep working on overhead work more for stability than anything else.
farmers carry
135/hand easy (grip was having trouble though
195/hand easy (probably 20 or so feet)
225/hand easy
stones
245 to a 50ish inch platform
260 to a 40ish inch platform
conans wheel
I think it was 400ish lbs for one rotation, not bad.
Tire flip
eight time, this was probably my favorite/hardest exercise, I just don’t have the wind I need.
I love going to train down at graham’s. I hate the drive but it’s worth it. I like training with different guys, whenever we go down there are 3 or 4 guys already there. Typically they are strong as can be. Gives me something to strive toward. Graham’s always a more than gracious host.
I have found that all the guys I meet in the strength community are gracious. It’s incredible.]]>
In The Bag
Took it kinda easy this week. I was expecting a major backlash from my deadlift workout. It never came.I don’t know if that makes me happy or scares me. Finally decided yesterday it was time to get up and do something.
In the spirit of trying to train outside the gym more:
my kettlebell routine was
right hand overhand flip to left
left hand high pull
left hand overhand flip to right
right hand high pull
ten times
all but one sand bag walk was bearhug
walk were 30 yards unless otherwise stated rest then 30 yards back
done on a lacrosse field
KB routine
50lb sandbag
KB routine
100lb sandbag
KB routine
150lb sandbag
KB routine
200lbs sandbag this one went about 20 yards I was unable to lift it to carry it back.
100lb sandbag back (behind neck on shoulders) carried 310 yards (not a typo, around the outide lines of the field)
100lb bear hug 110 yards and back
took about 30 minutes
I Am Stupid
Pissed at myself . I put off paying my fees and signing up for the Mid Atlantic strongman. My excuse is that with my dad’s funeral and moving, I just didn’t have time. The real reason is, I don’t know why I didn’t sent in. I’m really disappointed. I offered to help. Lesson learned.

So what’s the deadlift thing all about?
I dunno, it was just something I wanted to try to do. I know some people that are big fans of ten minute tests and that sort of thing. I don’t know why I picked a half an hour. I think I expected that even if i was fresh it would take longer to complete the lift than it did. Once I hit my goal with so much time remaining, it seemed like a sissy thing to just quit. So I drove on. You notice I slowed down as time went on, this was because it got harder (duh) and I got exhausted. I intentionally took a rest every ten reps and I also made sure to return the bar to the floor and stand up straight between each rep.
I noticed that I paid more attention to form as time went on.
That said, I’m not sure I could recommend this to anyone, it was just something I wanted to try. I think I will work in more 10 minute tests and that kind of thing.
Sometime in the next month, I think I will do 350 or 365 for ten or fifteen minutes. Probably not 20 again.
I’m still playing with my clubs tonight.
I got a new one for Doc. He’s probably done it but I find it fun. The back scratcher. Hold the arms out straight, clubs perpendicular to the ground. Just bend at the elbow and let the club glide down the center of your back, wih control, then back to start.
I also like doing various leverings and military press with the clubs locked out parallel to the ground.
I realize these vary from the traditional (primarily british tradition) use of the clubs and I’m not trying to ignore that aspect. It’s just a fun added dimension.
I hope to do yoga in the morn.
Senor Bland
Did yoga Sunday eve, Monday morn, tried to do it this morning and found myself spent. I ran into this wednesday of last week. I think two days in a row is the max for me right now on yoga. I’m gonna do 3-4 times a week for a while. We’ll see from there.
Realized as I was posting yesterday that yesterday was one year on gripboard for me. Time flys.
According to my retarded introductory post (this is why I usually don’t write my thoughts down), I was able to hold two tens together for 30 seconds and two twenty fives, with two hands, for five seconds. So, I have made good improvments there.
It looks like September 16th was about the beginning of this blog. I’ll make a bigger deal when that rolls around. I think it would be really cool if I could get teh post from one year prior to show up in the sidebar but I don’t think that is possible.
Climb!
Went to the climbing gym today for my free intro class that came with my summer pass. Learn how to belay, wear a harness, check a harnass, tie a couple knots and did some climbing. I did some top roping type stuff back when I was wrapping up at UNC. Nothing as well organized or challenging as the stuff I am doing at EarthTreks (which has giant “Climb!” sign outside it). I climbed X.4, X.5 and X.6(I can’t recall if the first number is 4 or 5). Had some good people there to climb with, both climbed better than I did but that is okay.
Came home and did some yoga
Also bought some wiffle ball bats to make indian clubs.

Off Day
I skipped yoga on wednesday, I was trying to work out a regular schedule for it. Boy did I miss it.
Thursday (yesterday) was a horrible day for work outs for me. I was not into the yoga at all, instead of feeling energized, I felt weak and tired. Then I tried to go to Dumbarton and squat, that wasn’t going well at all either. After some crappy squating and trying to find some other exercises that I didn’t already feel exhausted by, I gave up. I went and played tennis for an hour and went home.
This morning’s yoga went much better. Back to the way I know I shouldbe feeling, energized, awake, balanced. It was a good way to wake up. That’s not to say I can keep up yet, but I try. The day I can grab my own hands, behind my back and around my leg, then I’ll be able to keep up. I suspect that will be a very long time.
I think I’ll try to do some sandbags or something tonight.

Sandbags And Yoga
Still going well with the yoga. I really like it plus, I feel like I have already done something for the day before I arrive at work. I’m surprised by how tight my back is, I assumed my back was loose and my hammies were tight, which they are. I’mjust kinda surprised by how tights and immobile I am. I really believe that the pay off will be there if I just have patience and keep doing it. IT’s not too hard right now cause I’m liking it.
I built my sandbags last night, my new neighbors officially think I am crazy. I have a set of Ironmind bags I bought a long time ago but never filled. I put something like 450lbs of sand into them total.
100 lbs
75 lbs
50 lbs X 4
30 lbs
20 lbs
10 lbs
5 lbs
The reason there are so many fifties is that I plan on those being my primary bag to work with. I left plenty of room in the so the sand can slosh around and screw me up. The 5 and 10 lb bags are ziplocks with duct tape. All the weights are pretty rough, well the 50s should be dead on cause I bought 50lb bags from the store and just dumped a whole bag in there.
Did some lifts to my shoulder and some squats with the bag over one shoulder. Good training there. I also got the Sandbag training course, when I got my bags. I didn’t learn a whole lot from reading it but it could be because I have the benefit of the experiences of people like Dan and Luke and for that matter the Farmstrength lads, and Chris, definitly Chris.
I did like the books idea of buying and old punching bag though. It will be interesting to see how much the bags get used. I told Laura that I no longer have any rainy day/ holiday type excuses. I have Kettlebells, dubmbells, home made indian clubs, snad bags and great yoga DVD. I can train any time. sweet
In orther news I may be having some real legit indian clubs being made. Believe me, you will know if it works out. If so, they may be interested in making some more to sell. I’ll be looking for buyers if that happens. It will be a whole lot cheaper (I believe) that the ones I am currently seeing sold.
