Two For The Price Of One

Posted in Uncategorized by Mike on December 17, 2005

I have actaully worked out twice in the last two days. A great improvment over the week or so I took off. First yesterday….

New Gym- As manyof you know I am on the prowl for a new place to train. I think I found one. I went up the the University of Baltimore gym yesterday. Considering this is basically a over glorified community college, it has an awesome gym. Their frww weight room is a little sparser (is that word) than I expected but it has really nice equipment and it seems to not have many users so it should be just fine. Upstairs the have teh “power” room. This is where they teach olympic lifts w00t.gif . They had a great peg board on the wall, something I have been thinking a lot about recently. They have some other weird stuff like the medicine balls on a rope. As I turned to walk out I saw an amazing site. Four rows of kettlebells. Lined up like some gyms line up dumbells. It was awesome. Unfortunatly I was on the tour and idn’t even get a chance to touch them. But I will.
I went on a lifted…

plate pinch: 3X20 with 35s
finger curls: 3X15 with (I’m trying to remember and want to say 135 but am not sure(

Tonight, back to the shit that is Gold’s Gym. Had a decent upper body day.
Wrist curl 95 2 X15 1X10
reverse wrist curl 55 2X12 1X8

I’ll do some levering later. I have been doing a lot of my grippers lately. Typically I can do about 5 easy reps on my T and then try to knock out two on my #1. I don’t alwasy make those. I’ll do anywhere from 3 to 5 sets and do this 2-5 times a day. I also use my expand your hands band a lot. I don’t know numbers.

that’s it for now

We’ll Be Right Back After These Messages

Posted in Uncategorized by Mike on December 13, 2005

So I have takena few days off. I had a wicked sore throat. It was miserable. It actually started on Wednesday of last week and is just finally wrapping up. I had all these whie spots in my throat and it hurt a lot. Now that it is healing it is going from white to red to pink (pink being the normal kind). I can tell that I lost a layer of skin off certain parts. The back half of my tongue is devoid of the usual texture.
Tonight I take the wife to the symphony, so hopefully I can get back after it tomorrow night. Sometimes I feel like all I do is make excuses.

Through variety of reasons I have not been in the gym as much this week but i got back last night. Not a bad workout. I did manage to bench 275 for 5X5.Unfortunatly my standing pushpress seems to hover around 135 as the highest weight I can do much of anything with. I also got to yell at some little puke for leaving his crap everywhere. He insisted on doing barbell curls in the squat rack with only 2 1/2s on Then left it all put together and started doing lunges in the other squat rack with dumbells. I told him to either stick with a rack or clean up his crap. Only got the gym portion of my grip workout in. I will try to hit some levering tonight.

that’s it for now.

Big Steve’s Blog

Just rereading Steves blog and goals. I’ve seen his website and itis very cool. I think the big man has discovered something here. I’m sure he’s not the first, but I can be a little slow sometimes.
That man has found the erfect cardio. Lift weights, intensly for three hours. You will be working thousands of times harder than the fat chick sweat to the oldies on the treadmill and 3.3 mph. Well done man.

In other news that is not grip related. T-nation (T-mag) is having a little conference/get together down in DC in January. I think I may go. It isn’t cheap but it maybe worth it.

I got back in the gym today. In the spirit of trying something different I attempted 20 consecutive squats with 60% or my max. I managed about 12 before I wussed out. Next time I’ll push harder for the 20. So I did three sets of 12. Then I did two sets of twenty on straight legged deadlift. After that my back was screaming so loud I didn’t want to do anything more. I kinda wondered around a bit. Then went and screwed around on some of the machines. I almost never use machines so it was an education for me. I think I’ll stick to free weights. Overall it was actually a pretty good workout and I’m glad I tried it. I will try similar things in the future.

Other good news: I actually did pilates this morning. It felt good and was a nice way to wake up. I will try to repeat tomorrow. It showed me that I am stronger in some areas than expected and weaker in others. What more can you ask of a new type of training. Second, I got a big cooler today. I had one of those little lunch bags that hold like a sandwich but The Wife went to Target while I was at work and got me this sweet OD Green, Eddie Bauer Beast of a lunch bag. Children will run from me when I come swing this bastard by the shoulder strap. I may have to get a hip belt and a frame for the bastard. It has cool metal clips and stuff.

So, the reason we all meet at this little therapy session I call A Blog:

Grip

This was a little jacked, partially do to the workout mentioned above. I didn’t do crush. I barely did wrist.

wrist curl 45lbs 3X45
reverse wrist curl 45lbs 2X45

On a side not I have been playing with my grippers almost everyday for about a week now. I can crush my #1 pretty consistently and am looking forward to a #2 in my near future. Also, I need to file my T and maybe #1. I’m thinking about an order to Ironmind for a new T, #1, #2 and the sandbag kit. Also, I have been using my “Expand your hands bands” at work. usually the yellow for sets on twenty on each hand, back and forth. I need to start workin in the next higher band.

So that’s it for now.
